Cool Summer

Cool Summer, also called True Summer, is the coolest of the summer seasons. The coloring has a clear blue or rosy undertone: grey-blue, blue or cool hazel eyes, ash-brown or ash-blonde hair and pink or rosy skin. Contrast is low to medium. Cool, medium and slightly soft colors make Cool Summers look polished; warm, golden shades make them look sallow.

Frequently asked questions

What colors should a Cool Summer avoid?

Avoid warm, golden and earthy colors: orange, mustard, rust, camel and warm browns. Very bright, saturated shades like neon or pure black-and-white contrast can also look harsh.

Can a Cool Summer wear black or white?

Soft navy, charcoal and deep blue-grey are better than black. Soft white works well; stark optic white can be a little severe but is wearable away from the face.

What hair colors suit a Cool Summer?

Ash brown, ash blonde, cool mushroom brown and soft cool greys. Avoid golden, copper and red tones — they clash with rosy skin.

What's the difference between Cool Summer and Cool Winter?

Both are cool. The difference is contrast and clarity: Cool Summer is softer and lower-contrast (slate, raspberry, rose), Cool Winter is sharper and higher-contrast (royal blue, fuchsia, black and white). If soft navy looks better on you than black, you lean summer.

What metals and jewelry suit a Cool Summer?

Silver, white gold, platinum and pewter. Cool stones like amethyst, sapphire and rose quartz suit this season. Yellow gold looks warm and brassy.
